All Saints’ Day
November 1st is All Saints’ Day, when we give thanks to God for all those who have died confessing Jesus as their Savior.  We will celebrate this festival on the following Sunday, November 5th.  As part of the service, we will read the names of those members of Trinity who fell asleep in Jesus since the last All Saints’ Sunday.  If you would like the name of a friend or loved one who died in the Christian faith, please contact the church office.

This week for education hour:
6th Commandment (see page 321 in your hymnal)
How can you help your neighbor live a pure and decent life?  How can you help them keep their promises?

Budget Review Meeting
There will be a budget review meeting on Sunday afternoon, October 22 at 4:00 pm.  The congregation is invited to this meeting and encouraged to ask any questions about the 2018 budget that will be voted on at the November 19, 2018 Voters Assembly.  This year there will be ice cream and toppings served after the meeting.

Halloween Party
The board of education is canceling their harvest party and instead encouraging people to attend the Little Lambs Preschool trunk or treat on Halloween from 3:30pm-4:30pm.  Hope to see some cute little costumes there!

Reformation 500 Celebration
“Join us in celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The focal event for Reformation 500 is a festival worship service in the Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University, St. Paul on Sunday, Oct. 29, featuring LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew Harrison, drama, music, and dance.”  If any Trinity members would like to go to this event, plan to meet at Trinity at 1:00pm to leave in time to find parking, view the art work and other things going on and then be at the worship service at 4:00pm.  We will return to church after the service is done.  Sign up on the bulletin board.

Northfield Women’s Center Banquet
The Northfield Women’s Center is holding a banquet to celebrate and raise funds for their ministry.  It is a pro-life, Christian ministry here in Northfield aimed at helping women and families.  The banquet is on Oct. 26th at St. Olaf, starting at 6:15pm.  If you want to attend the banquet talk to DCE Jackie to reserve a spot at our Trinity table.  More information about the banquet can be found on the poster in the hall.

Children’s Bulletins
In lieu of our traditional children’s bulletin we offer, for this school year while we study the catechism as a congregation during education hour, there are worksheets highlighting the part of the catechism we are going over each week to pick up.  This will help you/child to prepare for what they will be learning each week.  Anyone is welcome to pick up a worksheet before you go into worship!

Revitalized Stewardship
Many congregations have faced or are facing loss of membership and/or lack of funds and the people grumble.  The congregation then faces the fact that something needs to change.  They either set out on a stewardship project or a financial overhaul.  While these things may be a good thing to do, they are not a solution because the problem is not really financial.
Revitalized stewardship comes from revitalized Christians:  people of God who see and understand the purpose for which God has set them on earth in a particular congregation family and community.
Stewardship is part of our sanctification and begins with Law and Gospel, repentance and faith.
Paul tells us in Romans 12:5: “So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”  Let us work together for each other, for our congregation, for our God, and for His Church.

Last call for Medicine Bottles
For the past year, the Mission Board has asked for donations of medicine bottles.  October 29th will be the last day for collecting them.  Please gather your bottles and bring them by that date.  We will be shipping them the first part of November.  If anyone would like to help defray the cost of shipping, please put your donation in the offering basket marked “Medicine Bottle Shipping”.  Thank you to everyone for a successful project.  Board of Missions

All Saints Celebration
In celebration of all the saints that have gone before us, we are doing a special project to remember them.  In the fellowship hall there will be stars of various colors.  Write the name of someone who died in the faith on the star.  This can be a friend, relative, or a historical figure you admire.  The only requirement is that they were a Christian at their death.  Look for the stars displayed on All Saints Sunday, November 5th.

500th Reformation Anniversary
As the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation continues Trinity is studying Luther’s Small Catechism in its Sunday morning Bible class. Luther himself daily read, studied, and meditated on the Catechism to grow in his knowledge of the Christian faith. His words encourage us to do the same that we would be drawn closer to Christ, that our faith would be strengthened, and that we would learn more of God’s Word as summarized in the Catechism.

“As for myself, let me say that I, too am a doctor and a preacher-yes, and as learned and experienced as any…Yet I do as a child who is being taught the Catechism. Every morning, and whenever else I have the time, I read and recite word for word the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, the Creed, the Psalms, etc. I must still read and study the Catechism daily, yet I cannot master it as I wish, but must remain a child and pupil of the Catechism, and I do it gladly…it is highly profitable and fruitful daily to read it and make it the subject of meditation and conversation. In such reading, conversation, and meditation the Holy Spirit is present and bestows ever new and greater light and fervor [to our faith].”  [Large Catechism, Long Preface, 7-8]
